Success Planning – 10 Steps to Success
Isn’t it amazing where your inspirations can come from, as I said in an earlier blog “Success and the Chicken Ding generation”, I picked up on a comment on Twitter and it spawned a whole series of ideas for blog posts. In my last blog post “Success – What does it mean to you?”, I presented a definition and my views on what success meant to me. To reiterate, I believe success should be considered in the context of achieving goals and overcoming challanges; If that also means that you attain wealth, influence and acclaim (perhaps the more pervasive definition of success) and that is what you set out to do, that is great. Since that post, I have had some more thinking time and ideas around the subject area so here goes.
Over the past few years, as part of my personal and professional development, I have been fortunate to study the work of and work with some excellent people in the field of success thinking, goal setting and goal achievement. Today, I would like to present you with a list of 10 areas, 10 steps to success, that appear in some guise in the models and works of those people and then over the next few weeks explore each of those in a little more detail.
10 Steps to Success
- Vision – a desired future state, something to set your sights on
- Goals – well formed and specific goals, that contribute to the attainment of the vision
- Motivation – the driving force to action, the reason why you wish to pursue the goals & vision
- Belief – your confidence that you can accomplish your goals
- Planning – the need to explore options, activities, prioritisation and scheduling time
- Personal growth – attainment of new skills and knowledge to assist in the accomplishment of your goals
- Getting help from others – may come in many forms, for example, key skills, specialist knowledge, support
- Execution, Execution, Execution – taking action and actually getting things done
- Measure and Review – measure your progress, review the progress against plan and take necessary actions
- Celebrating – enjoy and reward yourself for achieving your goals. Build confidence
These are the activities that I will focus on over the course of the next few weeks. If you have or can think of anymore, then let me know.
Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals. Jim Rohn
