I was looking for a quote the other day that I had attributed to Field Marshall Montgomery, when I came across this gem:
Every soldier must know, before he goes into battle, how the little battle he is to fight fits into the larger picture, and how the success of his fighting will influence the battle as a whole.
Bernard Law Montgomery
This sums up perfectly to me the power of small wins and completing small tasks in successfully completing large goals.
When we are faced with large tasks or goals, they can at times seem overbearing. However, by breaking them down into smaller tasks and perhaps then into even smaller sub-tasks they become less daunting. By then taking action on each of these sub-tasks and completing it you have a win, which can build your confidence and takes you one step closer to completing the biggie.
So when you are faced with a large task, that at first seems daunting, I invite you to spend some time considering the tasks and sub-tasks that you will need to complete it. Then take action on each of those elements and in doing so you will complete the whole.
