Catalyst
0On the 5th February, I posted a blog post called Do It Now. Inspired by the message in that post I listened to my own advice, to my 6th sense and took action on something that I wouldn’t normally have done or even considered. It would be hypocritical not to do so, given the message I was conveying. Since then I have been on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, there have been some incredible highs but also some deep lows.
This activity was initiated by somebody who entered into my life most unexpectedly and something seemed to click, I found myself drawn by some incredible connection. This person acted as a catalyst for a lot of changes, they provided clarity on a number of issues and provided a compelling future state, a vision, on which to focus. However, as quickly as they came they have now gone. The brightness and energy of the vision, unfortunately was not sustained and faded quickly. I spent some time the other day, in the “darkness” that was left; I wandered what to do next. I was uncharacteristically subdued, low on energy and lacking confidence. There are two choices as I see them, 1. stay in the darkness or 2. Light my own torch (dream), create my own compelling future vision and pursue that. No contest it has to be 2, and that sits well with my usual positive and confident outlook.
Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly
Stephen R. Covey
I would like to thank that person for their brief but life-changing interlude in my life. They perhaps did not see what a profound affect that they had on me in such a short time, perhaps it was not such a perceptible move or statement compared to their own scale or measures or rapid enough. Nonetheless, changes have occured that will impact my future and I am sure that those will be positive changes.
It is up to me now to re-light my own motivational fire, not live off the brightness and energy of others.
While I write this, a song by one of my favourite teenage era bands comes to mind…
I’ll tell you there’s no reason why
Why I should never reach the sky
’cause you can’t keep a good man down
